The Mirror Desk,
American electric car maker Tesla has set a new record in the manufacture and sale of new cars. Failing analysts’ estimates, Tesla delivered more than 184,800 which is higher than the previously estimated 177,822 electric cars to customers in the January-March quarter.
Tesla said in a statement that it was “excited” that the Model Y had become so popular in China that demand was high and the factory was producing at full capacity. According to Tesla, the S and X models are also popular with consumers, and demand for the car has grown rapidly. So far, the factory has also produced model three sedans.
Tesla on Friday reported that it delivered 184,800 vehicles and produced 180,338 cars in the first quarter of 2021. It was a record-beating quarter, topping the 180,570 deliveries the company recorded in the fourth quarter of the last year 2020.
Economists have hailed Tesla’s record for car production in the first quarter, even as the factory in California had to close for two days in February due to a shortage of spare parts.
It is estimated that Tesla will sell more than 850,000 cars in 2021 this year. Tesla’s car sales are expected to be higher due to the Biden administration’s policy of promoting electric vehicles in the United States and growing global demand.
